GUESS WHO'S BAAAACK

SURPRISE. I made the bonnet by the way oh god am I so proud.
HEEEEEEEEEELLOOOOO!
Guess who's baaaaaaack! Hahahaha in case you forgot who I am, hi I'm Minxie and I own a blog that has barely been touched for more or less 6 months. A brick fell down my head and my heart finally has space and POOF! I'm back to blogging world. Though the cause may be that my brother has a good phone with a good camera and I can borrow it because he's just cool with it, I can never deny that the comments and messages I received all because of this blog have inspired me to come back. My declamation piece post most especially, has received quite the recognition and use to both readers and non-readers. I would like to say thank you to everyone who loved and used "Sanity on Fire" for their school activities! Guess what, it even gave them good grades. Talk about a well-fed ego HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA *coughs* joking. So yeah HELLO HELLO HELLOOOOOOOO! :D I'll post back issues this time, I promise, I swear I'm serious this time. Like why I wore something like that up there^.

Writer's block: a recurring disease

I've been a very bad blogger.
I would suddenly stop writing for about 3 weeks or 3 months and turn this blog into some personal journal after the absence. Many of my friends have been asking me if I've posted anything new recently, and some readers have been looking forward to promised posts. God, I sincerely apologize.

Writing seems to be quite a different art -- to me it requires massive amounts of inspiration and motivation to keep you going; I need to be in the right frame of mind, the right mood, and the freedom from any distractions and pressure whatsoever, the burning enthusiasm, the vivid and breathing creativity. Unfortunately during the past months, I haven't read anything that boosts my creativity levels, and my time's all spent on a boyfriend who demands my constant communication. Sighs.

Novels and poems are oftentimes the most helpful factors that inspire me to write. My imagination tends to get brighter when I read a darker variety of literature -- the contrast itself is entertaining and motivating that it fills my head, pulsates increasingly every passing minute, and might burst out any moment if not released from a pen. Miserably, I have not seen any book worth buying and drawing inspiration from, nor have I spare bills to spend these months because of my annoyingly growing appetite, and a relationship that needs to be frequently fed.

Nevertheless here I am once again, risen from my mind's debris brought about by the unexpected magnitude 7 earthquake and the strongest typhoon in history (living in the Visayas region suddenly became exciting). Although my Halloween hangover is still a bit disturbing, the praises, mails, and comments this blog has earned have been quite alarming, just enough to substitute the amount of inspiration I'd get from a dark novel. ♥

Oh God. Earthquakes and typhoons. Please, It's Not Fun in the Philippines anymore. Stop coming.

I might post late posts about Halloween and past events (I'll edit the dates) along with the same old posts I used to write in this blog. :3

Le me starring in a black metal music video! O_O

All pictures are from Musika Sugbu

October 13, 2013
What I did on No Bra day? Woke up at 6, got ready, and headed to Lahug to meet up with a local black metal band and star in their MV. And no, I did not take off my bra.

I don't listen to black metal because I find it scary and Satanic. I also find corpse paint (a style of black-and-white makeup, used mainly by black metal bands during live concerts and photo shoots) just.. plain horrifying. But when I met the guys from EREHES, my assumptions were completely changed. Corpse paint isn't so scary after all, and these metalheads aren't the evil maniacs I thought they were. Black metalheads aren't necessarily Satanists.

The guys behind me are totally hilarious. And yes, I'm so tan here </3
I mean, guys in corpse paint, clad in black, with all the big metal spikes and gears.. riding on small bikes and braiding grasses? They're one of the coolest people I've ever hung out with on the first meeting! They were extra nice, respectful, and super hilarious! I was scared shitless on my way to our meeting place because I thought I was gonna get sacrificed or something. Hahahahahahahahaha but I wasn't. Instead, I was treated like a princess the whole day. I'll never forget these guys :3

le band members doin their makeup all by themselves :D
IDK but I totally find it cute and funny xD
le me and le director :3

Shootinggggg! Baaaaam!
Diz picture! I got included in CNU's Head Turner for this! Gaaaaaah heeeeeeelp :/ I'm sooo tan T.T
Kuya Ramee edited thissss ♥
FUN! FUN! FUN!
GRANNY: THE LEGENDARY PHOTO BOMBER! XDDD
These guys are the coolest! \m/

One thing I've learned, no, not learned but re-learned, is that we should never, at all costs, judge anyone. Daaaayum I should never have had assumptions beforehand. Oh well :/

The MV will be released maybe next month, so keep posted! xx ♥

Largest Bat in the World -- in the PHILIPPINES! :D

source

source

Descriptions online vary from source to source

The giant golden-crowned flying fox (Acerodon jubatus), also known as the golden-capped fruit bat, is a rare megabat and one of the largest bats in the world. The species is endangered and is currently facing the possibility of extinction because of poaching and forest destruction. It is endemic to forests in the Philippines.

The giant golden-crowned flying fox gets its species name from the golden fur around the head, in sharp contrast to the black body. Like all other fruit bats, they have no tail. They are among the largest bats, with a wingspan of 1.5–1.7 metres (4 ft 10 in–5 ft 7 in) and weighing 0.7–1.2 kilograms (1.5–2.6 lb). The only other bats with comparable measurements are a few species of Pteropus.

The largest bat species is the Giant golden-crowned flying fox (Acerodon jubatus), a rare fruit bat and endangered species that is part of the megabat family. Despite its name and superficial appearance, it is not closely related to the fox.

The maximum size is believed to approach 1.5 kg (3.3 lb), 55 cm (22 in) long, and the wingspan may be almost 1.8 m (6 ft).

The golden crown measures six feet in wingspan, the largest among all bats.

source

Now for some trivia:
The giant golden-crowned flying fox usually flies and are active at night. There have been several folkloric tales and mythical creatures in the Philippines that may be attributed to this giant bat, usually from the countryside. I haven't experienced them because I was born and raised in the city - there aren't much trees around, and noises from vehicles and machinery may disturb these "creatures".

One example of a mythical creature that could actually be the giant golden-crowned flying fox is the kikik.

source
source

Kikik transforms into a huge bird/bat at night and prowls. The kikik looks for a sleeping pregnant woman. Then it extends a very long proboscis into the womb and kills the fetus by draining its blood. It is said that while this is taking place, a 'kik-kik-kik' sound is often heard.
-- Hewbert Gabon

For one thing, I have a strong feeling that NO ONE has ever seen that kikik do the whole act of eating the fetus by extending its long, horrifying tongue inside the pregnant woman. According to Cebuano accounts online, they only heard sounds of the kikik's feet on their roof, and the bat or birdlike sounds they make. Due to the various and widespread rumors and tales prominent in a province, women who are pregnant would suddenly become conscious of the sounds that bats make. Since bats usually dwell and sleep in trees and caves, one could only expect quite a large population of them in the countryside because of all the forests and caves there :D

According to Avelina Gil, author of "In the Beginning", myths are the precursor of scientific investigation. Old folks who are not quite acquainted with science yet use their imagination to explain strange things, usually to warn kids and keep everyone intact.

Some Chinese Eat Babies O.o

Source: Chinese Eat Baby Soup for Sex from Library of Most Controversial Files

source
The reporter observed a woman chopping up a male fetus and making soup from placenta. During the process, the woman even tried to comfort everyone by saying, "Don't be afraid, this is just the flesh of a higher animal."

I've read about this in books long before, but this issue began surfacing just this morning among my friends. My reaction? I was horrified, I bet everyone would be. But all that I can say is, we shouldn't generalize. Certainly, NOT ALL CHINESE eat babies! Some of the Chinese who saw this news were even shocked. Let's not generalize an entire country just for this. The Chinese who eat them are only from minor provinces like Guangdong and Liaoning. But seriously, the whole idea is terrible.

Dark Lipstick

The Monday after my birthday, one of my classmates (I think she sells Avon products) showed me a lippie that was supposedly for her customer. Fortunately, the customer told her it's not the right color she ordered, so our classmate asked me if I was interested in it. And boy, the first time I saw the color, I sure squealed and screamed. I've been wishing for that for a long time now.

I ran to Jetherine and she gasped ecstatically and kept jumping with me. Without hesitations, we divided the price between the two of us, quickly took out our money, and bought it.

Mid-parted hair? O.o
Phone camera quality :/

Skeletal Hands Hair Clips
Jetherine surprised me one day with two miniature skeletal hands. Though I prefer them white, the hair clips sure are cute! Jetherine gave me the purple one. :3

Mister Donut
Jeth and I usually hang out at Mister Donut. It's where we have lunch and head to after classes while I wait for Michael. As we munch on donuts, brownies, and twists, we discuss freaky stuff -- horror and gory movies, Goth bands, torture devices, controversies on religions, mental disorders, death, the science of ghosts.. and we listen to Goth songs on my phone. We don't use my earphones because the volume isn't that audible especially when inside the store, so we use my phone's loudspeaker instead (but of course we tone it down). And Jeth and I speak in straight English while we talk. All this makes all the customers in the store smirk and look at us. Nah, all the looks they give us don't really matter as long as we're having a good time :D

Her Bloody Nail Art ♥
I totally dig Jeth's new nails. O.o I envy them!

The Dark Side of Argao (A Documentary)

Will be available in YouTube soon.

The Days of the Dead are upon us!
Explore some of the spooky spots in Argao--a province in Cebu--together with us!

For a better experience, watch in HD.
Note: The video is stretched lengthwise I don't know whyyy T.T

This is a school project in our ICT course. We only made use of what we have. We're not professionals or film making enthusiasts; that means we don't have those state-of-the-art cameras with ultramega lenses, we don't have microphones, lapels, lights, and all those sophisticated film making equipment, and digi cams and Sony Vegas aren't so bad either. We're only BA English Literature majors, for heaven's sake. At least we gave it our best shot. Blah blah blah.. You get the point.

And because we're new to this whole thing, I hope you all understand that we made some errors in the documentary. Anyhoooo, hope you like it.

Slept at 3 AM for 5 days, skipped the first two classes for 3 days. All for this.

PS: You bats will finally hear my voice O.o

My Last Days of Being 17

Two first photos aren't mine. Fished them off from Google.

It's already September 7th and it's still my first September post. Yeah I feel bad about it too. But anyways, here's what I can say.. My teenage years are almost over -- I've only got less than nine days left to do something illegal without getting arrested. Haha.

For a lot of reasons, I love September. It's almost Christmas. The sun starts to hide. Halloween is just close ahead. I begin to think a lot about yellow, orange, and red foliage on the ground though autumn never exists from where I live. And yeah, my birthday's on September.

Sadly, as far as I can remember, I usually get sick during this time of year, I don't know why! :/ I sure hope I'll stay healthy this time because I have a lot of things planned for my 18th birthday. Aside from that, the university intramurals falls on the week of my birthday. I really hope nothing goes wrong :(

Anyhoo, the very event I've been looking forward to this month is the Graveyard Picnic I organized which will be on Friday the 13th as one of my Pre-Birthday celebrations. It's gonna be me, my best friend, and my baby bat. Think tea, a cake, and a picnic blanket amidst tombstones and trees :D

My best friend and I have scouted the venue yesterday for the perfect spot to lay the picnic blanket. Celestial Gardens (Owned by Tanchan Foundation Inc) sure is one of the most beautiful cemeteries I've visited so far, with all the big patches of grass, the life-size statues of angels, the intricately designed mausoleums, the slopes, the hills, the old trees, the flowers that fell on the gaps of stepping stones, the setting sun.. I'll post the pictures of the trip soon enough. ♥

Savoring my last days of being seventeen. I don't wanna grow up T.T

Celestial Gardens (A Cemetery)

This is probably one of the most breathtaking cemeteries I've ever been to. Can't say anything more.

The Celestial Gardens is owned and operated by the Tanchan Foundation, Inc. Although the property is mainly a private cemetery, it is better known for its very grand ’Stations of the Cross’. Each year, thousands of people visit the Celestial Gardens during the Holy Week.

Ian Roy, my disloyal photographer hahahahaha

Seems more of a pre-debut shoot than just some plain picnic spot searching! Hahahaha ♥ Try visiting this memorial park, bats! You'll love it :3
